An anti-hero is a person who does things for heroic reasons, but has a flaw in their character that makes them not portrayed as a real hero, or they do their deeds in a way a traditional hero would not. A good example would be Joan of Arc. She was a french woman who saved her country from England at a young age, but was also very war-happy person. She liked to fight to solve everything, even if diplomacy was an option. There were also remarks that she was insane, seeing as she would hear voices who guided her through most of her young life.

I agree that an anti-hero is a person who does things for a good cause but has flaws. However i don't feel like Joan of Arc depicts an anti-hero. It is true she was a hero to her country, but she didn't necessarily do bad things. I understand that she was "war-happy", but war might have also been a good things to many people during that time period, and wouldn't have been considered a flaw.

Joan of Arc is an excellent example of an antihero because although war is not necessarily a good thing, her reasons for fighting were honorable. However, mental insanity is not exactly a character flaw because these voices told her to do the honorable thing many times in her life. Most likely these "voices" persuaded her to return to fight for her cause alone instead of retreating with her army.

@anderson: I respect your opinion on my post, though personally I agree with Hadley in that a person who is war happy would work since war normally would involve killing people, much like murder or the like, and yet is still honorable.
@hadley: I do understand the comment on the voices, though that could add a whole new layer of an anti-hero to her. Seeing as the society at the time thought that anyone who heard voices was insane or a witch, not exactly being a heroic trait, but the voices were honorable themselves in what they told her.
